Centre Carougeois de Billard re-opens, 22nd Asian 9-Ball Tour returns on 12 February

The much-awaited return of the 22nd Asian 9-Ball Tournament will reel off once again on the 12th of February, Sunday at 2 pm at the newly re-opened Centre Carougeois de Billard.

After months of forced hibernation, the Asian Tour, organised by the Philippine Billiard Club of Geneva will again organise this regular monthly pool competition among Asian pool players.
As always, it will again be a day of exciting pool competition, with lots of fun and camaraderie.

A Big Clash is expected at the 22nd Asian 9-Ball Tournament on Sunday, the 18 of September, 2 pm at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. After a two-month recess, the Asian Tours continues its battle of the pool titans which will feature the best players in town. Among those expected to show up are veteran player's Ken Nanakorn, Val Arceo, Jimmy Menguita, and Morris Leonor.

Thailand's Ken Nanakorn nips Leo Barroga 7-5, captures 2011 Ambassador's Cup- Philippine Independence Day 9-Ball Tournament

Thailand's Ken Nanakorn rallied from behind to beat Leo Barroga 7-5 to clinch the 5th Philippine Independence Day's Ambassador's Cup 9-Ball Tournament.. The rookie Barroga quickly took the first three racks leading 3-0. However, the Thai veteran regained control of the table and slowly equalized the score at 5-5. But the last two racks was too much pressure for the rookie Barroga. In several instances, he "chickened-out" and failed miserably to pocket the balls and left the table wide open for Nanakorn to run out. The Thai veteran simply out-gunned him in the last two racks.

Meanwhile, Veteran Val Arceo took the 3rd place. The Philippine Billiard Club of Geneva, the main organizer of the monthly Asian Tours would like to thank the Philippine Mission to the UN, and His excellency, Ambassador Evan Garcia for donating the trophies for this yearly event.

Val Arceo nips Morris Leonor 7-6, conquers 21st Asian 9-Ball Finals

Val Arceo shows his winning form at the finals of the 21st Asian 9-Ball Tournament

The 21st Asian 9-Ball ended with a bang as Val Arceo nipped Morris Leonor 7-6 in a sudden death hill-to-hill final rack. Arceo easily gained the upper hand in the early racks in an all-out offensive onslaught and quickly taking the lead 3-0. But Leonor came back from behind slowly chipping off Arceo's lead and forcing a tie at 6-6. The hill-to-hill drama ended with Leonor missing on the 4 ball and Arceo taking advantage and running out to finally nail his victory.

The 3rd place went to Thailand's Ken Nanakorn as he easily demolished Ruben Zaballa 7-4. Nanakorn took the early lead and held on the lead until the final rack.

The Philippine Billiard Club- Geneva, would like to thank the players, fans, supporters for a sucessful tournament. We hope to see you again next month for the annual Philippine Independence Day-The 5th Ambassador's Cup, an Asian invitational 9-Ball Tournament that will be held on 5 June 2011.

Val Arceo shocks Jimmy Menguita 7-5 to win 3rd Asian 10-Ball crown

It was like Lazarus coming back from the grave as Val Arceo shocked Jimmy Menguita in what could be the biggest come from behind victory in yesterday's 3^rd Asian 10-Ball Tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.

In blitzkreig fashion Jimmy Menguita started his attack and with superb pocketing and ball control and started nailing down Val Arceo. As Menguita led 5-1, everyone thought that the lead was too hard to overcome and that it was game over for Arceo.

However, miracles do happen especially in the Asian Tours as Val Arceo sprung out of the cold and brilliantly took control of the table with great pocketing, cue positioning and defensive safeties and rallied from behind taking 6 straight racks to the delight of the crowd and finally winning a spectacular 7-5 victory over Menguita.

In the battle for 3^rd place, rookie Leo Barroga slammed Frankie Federigan in a rack-to-rack battle. The Philippine Billiard Club-Geneva would like to thank the participants and fans for another successful Asian tournament. We hope to see you again next month for the 21st Asian 9-Ball Tournament.

Ken Nanakorn nips Raymundo Ruben 7-5 to grab 20th Asian 8-Ball Championship

It was a come from behind win for Ken Nanakorn as he nipped Raymundo Ruben 7-5 to grab the 20th Asian 9-Ball crown yesterday at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.
The veteran Ruben also known as "Kilabot ng Vegas" took the early racks and led 4-1. However, in the final racks, luck fell short for Ruben as he missed several shots and Nanakorn was able to rally and come from behind to an astounding finish 7-5.

In the battle for 3rd place, Val Arceo stunned Ruben Zaballa to win 5-3. It was also a close match in the early racks, but the more experienced Arceo mounted a series of offensive moves in the final racks to ensure his win.

Cue Masters to clash anew at 20th Asian 9-Ball Tour

The 20th Asian 9-Ball Tournament scheduled for Sunday, 6 March 2011 promises to be another exciting spectacle as the cue masters face off once again at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.

Jimmy Menguita, last month's 9-Ball champion leads the pack of hustlers who will vie for this month's crown. Ken Nanakorn of Thailand is another cue master, who fresh from his Eurotour stint in France promises to slug it out until the finals.

Other favorites are Val Arceo, Ruben Zaballa, Morris Leonor, and rookie of the year Leo Barroga.

Jimmy Menguita nips Joseph Sycip 7-5, captures 19th Asian 9-Ball crown

It was another exciting finals match as Jimmy Menguita rallied against an onslaught by Joseph Sycip to win the championship 7-5 at the 19th Asian 9-Ball Tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.

Sycip started with the fireworks by grabbing the first two racks and leading 2-0. Menguita took the third rack. Sycip went on to another offensive and kept the lead at 4-2 before Menguita was finally able to get back to his game and even up the score at 5-5. The last two racks finally went to Menguita for the final score 7-5.

In the battle for 3rd place, Leo Barroga stunned Morris Leonor 7-5. The rookie Barroga has surprised everyone with his performance by beating the more experience veteran players in the league on his way to the finals.

Vietnam's Tony Truong clobbers Thailand's Ken Nanakorn, grabs 18th Asian 9-Ball Championships

Playing his last tournament in the Asian Tours here in Geneva before he leaves for Vietnam, Tony Truong surprised everyone by clobbering Thailand's Ken Nanakorn 7-5 to grab the championship of the 18th Asian 9-Ball Tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.

Truong was determined to win this tournament as he kept his Thai opponent lagging behind by two racks until the final score. His attack-defense tactic was a great factor in his succesful win. Friends and fans applauded his victory and a small farewell party was held with his pool mates.

For the 3rd place, Ruben Zaballa trounced Raymundo Ruben 5-3. Zaballa took an early lead, taking the first couple of racks. But the stubborn Ruben tried to equalise by taking the next couple of racks. But then Zaballa went into an offensive streak taking the final racks to ensure his victory.

The Philippine Billiard Club of Geneva and the Asian Tours would like to congratulate Tony Truong for his wonderful victory. We would like to thank Tony for being a part of the Asian Tours. He is indeed a great pool player and we hope he will continue to play pool and someday be the top player in Vietnam. We will surely miss him.

18th Asian 9-Ball on 9 January

The 18th Asian 9-Ball tournament will be reeling on this Sunday, 9 January 2011 at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. The first tournament of the new year of the metal rabbit is expected to be as exciting as the past Asian Tours.

Philippine bet Val Arceo is again expected to be among the finalists, together with Thailand's Ken Nanakorn. Vietnam's Tony Truong who is playing his last tournament before going home is expected to try his best and give the veteran players a run for their money.

Final Christmas Clash at the 2nd Asian 10 Ball Tournament

Despite the barrage of snow this winter season, the heat is still on as the top Asian cue masters rack it up again at the 2nd Asian 10-Ball Tournament that unwinds on 12 December at 2 pm,Sunday at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.

As the final tournament of the year, the matches are expected to be as exciting and thrilling as the previous Asian Tours. Last month's champion Val Arceo from the Philippines will again be aiming for another championship. However his nearest rival, Thailand's Ken Nanakorn is expected to put up a neck-to-neck fight to wrest the crown.

Further resistance is expected from other cue masters like Tony Truong from Vietnam, Morris Leonor, Ruben Zaballa and Jimmy Menguita from the Philippines, and Liang Zi Yue of China. And further surprises can also be expected from other players who have shown great pool skills in the recent tours.

The Philippine Billiard Club's top player of the year Val Arceo showed his prowess by demolishing Thailand's Ken Nanakorn 7-3. From the early racks of the match, it was a
loop-sided battle as Arceo kept a safe distance leading most of the time by a couple of racks.
Nanakorn tried his best to make a comeback but was no match as he was already trailing by 4 racks.

In the battle for the 3rd place, Morris Leonor blasted Leo Barroga 5-3.

Ken Nanakorn beats Russel Alata 7-4, defends Asian 8-Ball crown

It was another day of surprises as Thailand's Ken Nanakorn subdued newcomer Russel Alata 7-4 at the 11^th Asian 8-Ball Tournament at the Carouge Centre de Billard.

The surprise of the tournament was Russel Alata, dubbed as “the new kid in town” who swiftly moved pass the other veterans of the league and landed in the finals. He also put up quite a fight in the finals with Nanakorn but in the end, the more experienced veteran from Bangkok was clearly the winner.

In the battle for the 3^rd place, Vietnam's Tony Truong upset Val Arceo 5-4. Arceo led quickly in the early racks but Truong, the stubborn cue player from Hanoi did not give up easily and surprised everyone by coming back from behind and winning.

11th Asian 8-Ball Tournament set on 8 August, Nanakorn to defend crown

After a month of summer break, the Asian Tours will be back again to the light blue felt pool table this coming 8th August as the pool masters clash anew and show who’s who in the 11^th edition of the Asian 8 Ball Tournament at 2 pm at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.

Defending Champion Ken Nanakorn of Thailand is expected to be in tip-top shape and will go all out in defense of his title. However, stiff opposition from the Philippine players is expected as Morris Leonor, Val Arceo, and Jimmy Menguita have been busy practicing and running out tables in preparation for the tournament.

Also, Vietnam’s Tony Truong is no push-over either. He has vowed to streak to the finals. The Philippine team continues to have a deep bench of players that can spring surprises. Aside from their veteran players, they have Ruben Zaballa, Leo Barroga, and Nilo Teodoro.

Val Arceo captures 4th Annual Ambassador's Cup--Philippine Independence Day Invitational 9-Ball Tournament

It was another shining moment for veteran cue master Val Arceo as he captured the 4th Annual Ambassador's Cup--Philippine Independence Day Invitational 9-Ball Tournament yesterday at the Carouge Centre de Billard. Besting more than a dozen cue artists which included China’s Han Bin, Cambodia’s Phaly Long, Vietnam’s Tony Truong, and Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn, Arceo led the Philippine team to take the championship and the 2 runner-up positions

For the finals, it was an all-Filipino battle which featured Val Arceo and compatriot Morris Leonor. Leonor started with an all out attack to take an early 3-1 lead. After the 4^th rack, Arceo quickly went to work and took the next two racks to equalize the score. From there, Arceo put the icing to the cake with his brilliant safeties and superb pocketing to finish 7-3.

Another Philippine player, Jimmy Menguita dumped Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn 7-2 to grab the 3^rd place. It was a lop-sided battle as Menguita took the offensive from the very start and took rack after rack limiting his opponent to winning only 2 racks.

The top Asian cue masters battle anew in this year's 2010 Philippine Independence Day Invitational 9-Ball Tournament on Sunday, 6 June at the Carouge Billiards Center. Up for grabs is the much coveted "4th Ambassador’s Cup". Like last year's competition, the competition will be an Asian invitational tournament to accommodate our Asian pool players who have been very supportive of the Philippine Billiard Club.

Thailand's Ken Nanakorn captured the 12 Asian 9-Ball Tournament yesterday at the Carougeois Centre de Billard. It was Nanakorn's second straight win. The PBC's Joseph Sycip took the 2nd place, while his other compatriots from the Philippines, Ruben Zaballa and Leo Barroga took the 3rd and 4th spots.

The Philippine Billiard Club of Geneva has announced that the annual Philippine Independence Day Invitational 9-Ball Tournament - "Ambassador's Cup" will be held on the 6th of June 2010, at 2 pm, at the CEntre Carougeois de Billard.

Ken Nanakorn rallies to nip Morris Leonor 7-6, captures 10th Asian 8 Ball Championships

Thai cue master Ken Nanakorn pulled off a Houdini act to beat Philippines’ Morris Leonor in the end game, 7-6, during the 10th Asian 8 Ball Tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard Club last night.

Nanakorn trailed Leonor, 6-2 after Leonor launched a barrage of offensive attacks that put him far ahead and “on the hill” as he needed only one more game to capture the crown. Slowly, Nanakorn took the successive racks one by one until he was able to equalize the score at 6-6. The last rack proved to be a battle of nerves especially for Leonor who missed an easy shot on the 7 ball on the side and was followed by another foul shot as he missed a jump shot that gave Nanakorn “ball on hand” to finish the game.

In the race for 3rd place, Vietnam’s Tony Truong easily trounced Thailand’s Mie “James” Udon 5-2. Troung took control of the table from the beginning and kept a comfortable lead all the way

10th Asian 8-Ball Tour: The Spring Challenge reels off 18 April at Centre Carougeois de Billard

The 10^th Asian 8 Ball Tournament reels off this Sunday, 18 April as the Asian cue masters meet again for the Spring Challenge at the Centre Carougeois de Billard at 2 pm.

Defending Champion Jimmy Menguita who has so far won two consecutive titles for the months of February and March, aims to set a record by winning his third successive championship.

Other strong contenders are Val Arceo and Morris Leonor from the Team Philippines, Ken Nanakorn and Mie “James” Udon of Thailand, and Tony Truong of Vietnam.

JImmy Menguita nips Raymundo Ruben 6-4, captures 2 consecutive title

Jimmy Menguita took his 2^nd consecutive cup by beating Raymundo Ruben 6-4 in yesterday’s 11^th Asian 9-Ball tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. Menguita, who was last month’s 9^th Asian 8-Ball survived the very close neck-to-neck race with veteran player Raymundo Ruben.

It was a very close fight with Menguita winning the opening rack and Ruben tying the score 1-1 in the following rack. Menguita then took the 3^rd rack and again Ruben evened up the score at 2-2. The 5^th rack was again taken by Menguita, but again the stubborn Ruben again equalized the score at 3-3.

Then again this was repeated as Menguita took the next rack and Ruben scored another equalizer 4-4. But the 9^th rack was again taken by Menguita and the in the next rack, Ruben was unable to tie the score as he missed a cut shot on the 9 ball in the corner pocket . Left in the jaws of the corner pocket, Menguita easily pocketed the 9 ball to win 6-4.

Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn took the 3^rd place by default as Morris Leonor, who took the 4^th place failed to show up at the table.

Another showdown appears to be looming as the Asian cue masters prepare to face-off anew in another exciting competition at the 11th Asian 9-Ball Tour on 7 March at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.

Morris Leonor, the 9-Ball defending champion is expected to face very stiff opposition from more than a dozen other players from the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, China, and Japan.

Jimmy Menguita showed his billiard prowess in last night’s 9th Asian 8-Ball Tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard by crushing Morris Leonor 5-2. It was a close battle in the early part of the game as both players had it tied at 2-all. However the last remaining 3 racks made the difference as Menguita started a blitzkrieg attack and took control of the table to capture his first championship of the year.

Leo Barroga, who is considered one of the most improved billiard rookie took the 3rd place and Nilo Teodoro, the hustler from Mandaluyong City grabbed the 4th place.

Morris Leonor of the Philippines started the year 2010 like a roaring tiger as he devoured Tony Truong of Vietnam 7-3 in today’s finals of the 10th Asian 9-Ball Tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard, at the old town of Carouge in Geneva.

The Filipino veteran player went into an early offensive to take the first 2 racks. Not to be outdone, the cue master from Ho Chi Minh City fought back and equalized the score at 2-2. Then the next rack went to Leonor. Again, Truong retaliated by tying the score 3-3. In the contest for the 3rd and 4th place, it was a heartbreak neck-to-neck battle between two Filipino billiard buddies. Val Arceo nipped Jimmy Menguita 6-5 in an exciting tit-for-tat battle. In the end, the pool gods gave the good rolls to Val Arceo as he pumped in the last few balls plus the 9 ball to inch his way past Menguita.

The PBC-Geneva welcomes the year of the Tiger with a big bang as the cue masters battle it out anew at the 10th Asian 9-Ball Tournament on the 17^th of January 2010 at 2 pm, at the Centre Carougeois de Billard, 36 Av. du Cardinal– Mermillod, 1227 Carouge.

After a very successful tour last year, this year’s Asian Tour promises to be more exciting than ever. We are aiming to expand and increase our membership to include more Asian players in the only major Asian pool league in Switzerland.

We would like to thank our members, players, fans and supporters who helped us build the Asian Tours. Thank you for your support and we hope that together we will continue promoting the billiard sport among our people here in Geneva.

Ken Nanakorn defeats Joseph Sycip 5-1 to capture the 8th Asian 8-Ball Tournament

Ken Nanakorn of Thailand is the year-enders 8th Asian 8-Ball Tournament champion

Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn defeated Philippines’ Joseph Sycip 5-1 in the year-ender 8th Asian 8-Ball Tournament yesterday at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. Nanakorn’s win has made him the number 1 in the top rankings of the Asian Tour.

Nanakorn had a smooth sailing as he was able to perfectly position and run out on the early racks. He took the first 3 racks before Sycip was able to win a rack but by that time it was already too late. Sycip, who remained undefeated until the finals could not seem to get his momentum. He complained of a lot of bad rolls during his game with Nanakorn. “Tough luck, the balls just did not roll on the right position”, he said.

In the other match for the 3^rd place, Philippine’s Jimmy Menguita beat Vietnam’s Tony Truong 5-3. Jimmy Menguita led all the way taking the early racks while Tony Truong tried to rally from behind. In the end, Menguita’s superb safety plays plus his excellent pocketing and ball positioning made the difference as this insured his victory.

During the break, the PBC-Geneva held a Christmas cocktail party consisting of Asian food. Sushi, fried noodles, spring rolls, paella, and other delicacies were served to the players, friends and supporters of the Asian Tours. In behalf of the PBC-Geneva and the Asian Tours, we thank all of you for your support this past year. We hope we canl make the Asian Tours more successful next year. The Christmas Challenge at the 8th Asian 8-Ball Tournament

The cold snowy winter season has now begun but the heat is still on as the top Asian cue masters rack it up at the 8th Asian 8-Ball Tournament that unwinds on 13 December at 2 pm,Sunday at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.

As the final tournament of the year, the matches are expected to be as exciting and thrilling as the previous Asian Tours. The defending Champion Val Arceo from the Philippines will be aiming for his third straight grandslam championship. However his nearest rival, Thailand's Ken Nanakorn is expected to put up a neck-to-neck fight to wrest the crown.

Further resistance is expected from other cue masters like Tony Truong from Vietnam, Morris Leonor, Ruben Zaballa and Jimmy Menguita from the Philippines, and Liang Zi Yue of China. And further surprises can also be expected from other players who have shown great pool skills in the recent tours.

As this will be the final tour of the year, we would like to invite other Asian players to come and join us in this fun-filled day of pool competition. A registration fee of 35 CHF will be charged for each participating player. Players are requested to be present 15 minutes before game time.

Val Arceo thrashes Ken Nanakorn 7-2, wins 9th Asian 9 Ball Tour

The Philippines’ Val Arceo made his 2^nd consecutive championship by thrashing Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn 7-2 in today’s finals of the 9^th Asian 9-Ball Tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. Last month, Arceo took the 7^th Asian 8-Ball Tour by beating his compatriot Ruben Zaballa 5-3.

Nanakorn started with an early lead by taking the first rack. This was quickly equalized by Arceo as he took the second rack. From there on, Arceo went into a flurry of attacks with precise pocketing and impeccable positioning of the cue ball. This somehow immobilized the cuemaster from Bangkok who was only able to take another rack before he was finally buried in a deluge of run-outs.

In the race for 3^rd place, the veteran Morris Leonor of the Philippines trounced his compatriot rookie Leo Barroga 6-4 in an exciting match. The early racks were a see-saw battle until the 8^th rack when the breaks began to tilt to the more experienced player Leonor. He took the offensive to grab the last 2 racks to put the icing on his cake.

9th Asian 9-Ball Tour set for 15 November

The Asian pool masters will again be facing off this Sunday, 15 November at 2 p.m. at the Centre Carougeois de Billard in the 9^th edition of Asian 9 Ball Tournament. As usual, the double round elimination tournament will again be full of suspense and excitement as the players fight it out rack after rack in this nerve-wrecking competition.

Defending Champion Ken Nanakorn of Thailand will be sticking to his guns in his bid to retain his crown. He will be facing stiff opposition from veteran players like Vietnam’s Tony Truong, and the Philippines' Val Arceo, Jimmy Menguita and Ruben Zaballa.

Not to be discounted are the other Philippine veterans of the pool circuit like Philippines’ Raymundo Ruben and Morris Leonor and Thailand’s Mie “James” Udon. Also to be carefully watched are the rising stars, --the rookies like China’s Liang Zi Yue, Japan’s Yoshi Hasegawa, and the Philippines’ Leo Barroga who in the last few months have improved their game tremendously.

Val Arceo whips Ruben Zaballa 5-3, bags 7th Asian 8 Ball crown.

It was another all-Philippine finals in today’s 7th Asian 8 Ball Tournament at the Centre Billard de Carougeois as veteran cue master Val Arceo whipped compatriot Ruben Zaballa 5-3 to defend the title and win the 8 ball championship for the second consecutive time.

Arceo who was also the 6th Asian 8 Ball champion, took the early lead and grabbed the first rack. However, not to be outdone, Zaballa fought back for the equalizer. It was a see-saw battle until the 4th rack with the score at 2-2, when Arceo unleashed his all out attack and took the next two racks to lead 4-2. The stubborn Zaballa tried to rally and took the next rack to move closer at 4-3. But in the final rack, Arceo tried a bank shot on the side pocket with the 8 ball which missed but with a stroke of good luck, bounced back and went inside the pocket to seal his victory 5-3.

In the battle for 3rd place, rookie Leo Barroga surprised everyone by upsetting and demolishing Las Vegas veteran Raymundo Ruben 3-0. It was a lop-sided match as Barroga took control of the table and dominated rack after rack. Ruben, who earlier in the semi-finals played a superb game by crushing Vietnamese Tony Truong 5-0, suddenly lost his magic touch and succumbed to Barroga’s
unrelenting offensive.

As a special benefit tournament, the prize money of 220 Swiss francs (approximately 10,000 Philippine pesos) was donated to Sagip Kapamilya c/o Mr. Rudy Guacena for the victims of the recent typhoon Ondoy . We would like to thank all the players for their generosity, kindness and solidarity.

Autumn has begun and the AsianTours will commence this season with the 7th All Asian 8 Ball Tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard, on Sunday, 4 October at 2 pm. Like the previous tours, this one promises to be another exciting rack after rack battle between the Asian masters of pool.

After a magnificent performance in last month’s 8th All Asian 9 ball tour, the last month’s finalists Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn, Philippines’ Jimmy Menguita and Val Arceo, and Vietnam’s Tony Truong are all geared up to try their luck in this coming autumn tour. However, as we all know, the ball is round and it is the pool Gods that decide. And with more good players joining the tour, it becomes more and more difficult to predict who is going to win.

For this month's tournament, as an expression of solidarity with the Philippine community, the PBC-Geneva and the players have agreed that the usual prize money will instead be donated to the victims of last week's Typhoon Ondoy which has unleashed devastation for millions of people and has already claimed 277 lives. However, there will still be trophies for the finalists.

Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn beat Philippines' Jimmy Menguita 5-3 in yesterday’s 8th All Asian 9 Ball Tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. The Thai was in his flawless form as he came all out to capture the early lead 2-0. But Menquita tried to catch up by taking the next rack to the delight of the audience. However, Nanakorn persisted and kept on with his superb ball pocketing and brilliant safeties to secure the championship trophy.

In the battle for the 3rd place, Philippines' Val Arceo trashed Vietnam's Tony Truong 5-2 in a lop-sided battle. Arceo, who won the last two Asian Tours for both 8 and 9 Ball played perfect billiards as he easily moved on to take the 3rd place.

Val Arceo lambasts Morris Leonor 5-3 , wins 6th All Asian 8 Ball Tournament

After bagging last month’s 7th All Asian 9-Ball Tournament, Philippines’ Val Arceo continued his winning streak as he lambasted his compatriot Morris Leonor 5-3 to capture the 6^th All Asian 8-Ball Tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard..

Leonor gained the early lead as he took control of the early rack. Arceo fought it out and from then on it was a tit-for-tat battle until the 6^th rack as both were tied with 3 racks each. But in the final 7^th and 8^th racks, Arceo came all out in both his offensive and defensive plays, pocketing and positioning his balls with perfect accuracy to bring home the crown.

In the other finals match, Vietnamese Tony Truong clobbered Japan’s Yoshi Hasegawa 5-1 to finish with 3^rd place. Truong showed his superiority in the lop-sided match as he easily took control of the match rack after rack.

Val Arceo beats Ruben Zaballa 7-4 to capture 7th Asian 9 Ball Tour

After last month’s Philippine Independence Day tournament defeat, it was sweet revenge for the Filipinos as they swept all the last 4 slots of the finals with Val Arceo crushing Ruben Zaballa 7-5 to capture the 7th Asian 9 Ball Tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.

It was a tight battle from the beginning as both players fought tit-for- tat until the 10th rack when Arceo was able to lead by a rack and the first to move over the hill. His splendid performance in the final rack was the icing to the cake as he proved to be unstoppable in pocketing the last few balls before he put in the final 9 ball to capture the championship.

In the battle for the 3rd place, women’s champion PJ Rojo,demolished veteran player Raymundo Ruben 7-4. Rojo totally outplayed Ruben in offense as well as defense. Her precision shots and safeties were too much for the veteran Ruben. On the other hand, Ruben seemed to be having problems with his ball pocketing, as well as his ball positioning.

Summer Heats Up as Asian Pool Masters Prepare to Clash Anew at the7th Asian 9 Ball Tournament

The heat is up as the Asian cue masters meet anew on the 5th of July for the much-awaited 7th All Asian 9 Ball Tournament to be held at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. After failing to win last month’s Philippine Independence Day 8 Ball Asian Invitational Tournament, the Filipinos are raring to turn the tables on their fiercest Asian opponents.
Led by Jimmy Menguita, Val Arceo, and Ruben Zaballa, Team Philippines boasts of the deepest bench in the Asian Tour. In addition, pool Veterans Bos Reyes, Frankie Federigan, Raymundo Ruben, and Morris Leonor make this team a formidable wall to breakthrough.
Among the fiercest of their opponents are the Thais led by Ken Nanakorn and last month’s Philippine Independence Day Champion, Mie “James” Udon. The “dynamic duo” of Thai pool are expected to create havoc on the green felt to insure their domination of the game.
The Vietnamese on the other hand, has a strong presence in the Asian Tour. Led by Tony Truong, the master cue player from Hanoi has consistently shown that he can run out the tables with his precision shots and ball positioning. Backed up by rookie Stephen Linh, they are a formidable force to reckon with in the Asian tour.
Not to be discounted is China’s Liang Zi Yue and Japan’s Yoshi Hasegawa, both players have proven their competitiveness during the last Asian Tours either landing in the semi-finals or the finals.

Thailand's Mie "James" Udon bags Ambassador's Cup

Thailand’s Mie “James” Udon clobbered Philippines’ Bos Reyes 5-1 to capture the 2009 Ambassador’s Cup - Philippine Independence Day Asian Invitational 8 Ball Tournament held today at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.

It was a shaky start for Udon who was trailing as Reyes took the 1st rack to lead 1-0. However, Udon started to get serious and pulled out all his guns to take the rest of the next 5 racks to finalized his victory. This is the second consecutive year that the Thais have taken the much-coveted Ambassador’s Cup. Last year, another Thai player, Manat Dornkan took home the cup.

In the battle for 3rd place, Vietnam’s Steven Linh crushed Philippines’ Ruben Zaballa 5-2. The Vietnamese rookie cue player took the offensive and wrapped up the first 2 racks. Zaballa tried to rally from behind but the effort seemed to be futile as Linh was unstoppable in pocketing shots and positioning the white ball perfectly for the next shots.

Nanakorn edges Arceo 9-8, captures 6th All Asian 9 Ball Tournament crown

Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn swept his way into the finals and then edged Philippines’ Val Arceo in a thrilling title showdown, 9-8, to rule the 6th All Asian 9 Ball Tournament today at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.

It was an astounding feat for the cue master from Bangkok as it was his second championship in a row. Only last month, Nanakorn also captured the 5th All Asian 8 Ball Tournament.

Another surprise was Philippine rookie Leo Barroga who took the 3rd place by nipping compatriot Joseph Sycip 7-6. It was Barroga’s first time to be in the finals of the Asian Tours.

Next month's tournament will be the annual Philippine Independence Day Ambassador’s Cup 8-Ball Invitational Tournament which is scheduled on the 7th of June, at 2 pm at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.

It’s going to be mayhem again on the 3rd of May as the clash of the pool Titans happens at the 6th All Asian 9 Ball Tournament at 2 p.m. at the Centre Carougeois de Billard, 36, av. Cardinal-Mermillod 1227 Carouge.

Defending Champion Ruben Zaballa of the Philippines will be facing stiff opposition as he tries to defend his title. The Asian tigers, Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn, Vietnam’s Tony Truong, and China’s Liang Zi Yue are among the top contenders. However, Zaballa is expected to get back up from the Team Philippines which is considered to have the deepest bench in the Asian tours.

Ken Nanakorn of Thailand nipped Liang Zi Yue of China in the finals, 5-4, to complete a sweep and rule the 5th All Asian 8-Ball Tournament Championship yesterday at the Centre Billard de Carougeois

In blitzkrieg fashion, Nanakorn quickly took the early lead by taking the first initial racks to lead 4-1. However, Liang slowly but surely went back to the game and tied the score at 4-4 to the delight of the crowd. In the final and decisive rack, Liang gambled on a difficult shot instead of going for a safety, giving Nanakorn a easy shot to run out the last few balls.

Meanwhile, in the battle for 3^rd place, Morris Leonor of the Philippines hurdled past compatriot Joseph Sycip 5-2. Sycip led 2-0 in the early racks but a couple of bad rolls

in the succeeding racks miraculously helped Leonor to rally and win the game.

The All-Asian Tours is a regular monthly pool tournament originally organized by the Philippine Billiard Club of Geneva. In its initial years from 2003, the PBC-Geneva organized the All-Filipino billiard events. However from 2007, it has expanded and grown into the All Asian Tours to include cue players from Cambodia, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, China and the Philippines.

Springtime Renews Battle of the Asian Cue Masters at the 5th All Asian 8 Ball Tour

It will be another explosive springtime offensive on 5 April, 2008 when the Asian cue masters battle it out in the upcoming 5th All Asian 8-Ball Tournament at the Centre Billard de Carougeois. Defending Champion, Tony Truong of Vietnam will try to defend his crown against the pool wizards of the Philippines, Thailand, China, Cambodia, and Japan.

Last month’s 5th All Asian 9-Ball Tour surprise champion, Ruben Zaballa, together with pool veterans Val Arceo and Jimmy Menguita lead the opposition team from Philippines. Equally explosive are Thailand’s Dynamic Duo, Ken Nanakorn and Manat Dornkan. Also expected to pull out some surprises are China’s Liang Zi Yue and Japan’s Yoshi Hasegawa.

Ruben Zaballa clobbers Tony Truong 7-4 to win 5th All Asian 9-Ball Tour

Team Philippines finally scored their first victory for 2009 yesterday as Ruben Zaballa came up with a near-flawless performance as he clobbered Vietnam’s Tony Truong 7-4 in yesterday's 5^th All Asian 9 Ball Tournament at the Centre Billard de Carougeois.

After an early see-saw battle that lasted until the 6^rd rack and tied the score at 3-3, the tide suddenly changed as Zaballa slowly but surely took the succeeding racks to win 7-4. It was a breakthrough feat for Zaballa as this is his first All Asian tour victory.

The second match for the 3^rd place also proved to be very exciting as Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn nipped Philippines’ Morris Leonor 7-6. It was a tit-for tat fight for these two master cue players which lasted until the final rack. But in the end, Nanakorn prevailed to the cheers of the crowd who all greeted him a happy birthday.

The next tournament, the 5^th All Asian 8-Ball Tournament will be held on the 5^th of April 2009, Sunday, 2 p.m. at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. To all our Asian players, fans and supporters--

Defending Champion Ken Nanakorn of Thailand, who won the last 4th All Asian 9-Ball Tournament is set to preserve his crown as he faces the toughest bunch of Asian cue masters in the coming 5^th All Asian 9-Ball Tournament on 8^th March, Sunday, at 2 p.m. at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.

In contention are the Philippines with the deepest bench led by the juggernaut of cue veterans Jimmy Menguita, Val Arceo, and Raymundo Ruben. Not to be outdone is Vietnam’s Tony Truong, who surprised everyone by capturing last month’s 4^th All Asia 8 Ball Tour. Another rising cue master is China’s Liang Zi Yue who has lately proved that he is no pushover by landing in the finals last month.

As in the past, the Philippine Billiard Club-Geneva welcomes all Asians to join us in this fun-filled day of pool competition. Tony Truong of Vietnam is the new All Asian 8 Ball Champion

Billiard rookie Tony Truong of Vietnam proved to be the biggest heartbreaker as he trounced China’s Liang Zi Yue 6-4 in yesterday’s 4^th All-Asian 8 Ball Tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. Truong played an almost flawless game of precise pocketing, perfect positioning of the cue ball and spectacular safeties that put him in the lead 4-1 in the early racks. Despite the big lead, Liang tried desperately to rally from behind and moved closer to 5-4. However, Liang blew a chance to tie the score as he missed on the 4 ball. Truong took advantage of this and ran out the table to secure his victory.

In the battle for the 3^rd place, Thai cue master Manat Dornkan demolished his compatriot Ken Nanakorn 6-3. Dornkan proved to be in a better form as he outplayed Nanakorn in almost every rack in this one-sided contest.

Nanakorn nips Sycip 6-4, wins 4th Asian 9 Ball Tour

PBC-President Jerry Quinto awards Thai Ken Nanakorn the champion's cup

Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn nipped PBC’s Joseph Sycip 6-4 in an exciting, nerve wreaking tit-for-tat match last night at the 4th All Asian 9 Ball Tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. Both players battled it out in every rack tying the score at 4-4. However, Nanakorn took the 5th rack with his exceptional pocketing and ball positioning and Sycip was not able to tie the score as he encountered a couple of bad rolls that finally gave Nanakorn the title.

In the other set of finals for the 3rd and 4th place, Manat Dornkan of Thailand beat Philippines’ Leo Flor , 6-3. Dornkan took the early lead by taking first three racks. Flor desperately tried to rally from behind but it was too late as the Thai cue master took the succeeding racks and made sure that his opponent was buried in the score.

The year of the Ox 2009 promises to be an exciting year for the Asian Billiard Tournaments, which are principally organized by the Philippine Billiard Club of Geneva. The PBC-Geneva started organizing All- Filipino Billiard Tournaments in 2003. In late 2007, we expanded from All-Filipino to All-Asian and today we are currently having regular monthly All Asian tournaments. Today our tournament participants include players from the Philippines, Thailand, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, and South Korea. We hope that in 2009 we will continue to be successful in our efforts to promote pool among our co-Asians in Geneva.

The year of the Ox will be welcomed by explosive fireworks as Asia's top cue artists face each other at this year's 4th All Asian 9-Ball Tournament which will unfold on the 11th of January, 2 p.m. at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. Cue masters from the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, and China will battle it out in this year's opening Asian tournament.

Defending Champion Jimmy Menguita of the PBC-Geneva will again lead the Filipinos, while tough opposition is again expected from the Thais led by Ken Nanakorn and Manat Dornkan, and

the Vietnamese led by Tony Truong and Steven Linh, and ofcourse, the Chinese juggernaut led by Han Bin and Liang Zi Yue.

The Philippine Billiard Club-Geneva again extends its invitation to all Asians to join us in our opening tournament for this year. It was another all Filipino finals at the 3^rd All Asian 8 Ball tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. Jimmy Menguita, last month’s 3^rd Asian 9 Ball champion continued his winning streak by clobbering Raymundo Ruben 6-4. Menguita’s flawless pocketing and superb positioning of the cue ball put him ahead in the early racks. But in a display of strong fighting spirit, Ruben rallied and almost tied the score as he closed in 5-4. However, the rolls went to Menguita as he easily took the final rack after Ruben missed a pocket.

In the 3rd place contest, Frankie Federigan easily beat Joseph Sycip. Federigan, who is a veteran pool player disarmed his opponent by using defensive plays and safeties. His strategy of “attack-defense” proved to be effective against Sycip who is more of an offensive player. Earlier, Sycip eliminated both Thai cue master Ken Nanakorn, and Vietnamese pool hustler Tony Truong. However, his compatriot Federigan, proved to be more blessed by the pool Gods as the good rolls went with him.

Just before the finals, the tournament was suspended for an hour as the Philippine Billiard Club-Geneva also had a small Christmas celebration with drinks, and Asian food which consisted of spring rolls, sushi, chicken, dimsum, salad and noodles. The Christmas celebration was also to thank all the Asian players, our friends and fans, especially the Centre Carougeois de Billard for supporting us in the year 2008. We hope that your support and dedication to the sport of billiards will continue in the years to come. Lastly,we also thank those who in one way or another contributed to our Christmas party by cooking or donating food. Thanks to Jerry Quinto and family, Morris Leonor and family, Frankie Federigan and Ken Nanakorn and others for preparing and bringing in the food.

Dubbed as the “Christmas Showdown”, this final tournament of the year will feature Asian cue masters from Thailand, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, and the Philippines.

Defending Champion the Philippines, who in the past won the 1st and 2nd Asian 8 Ball Tournaments will be faced with tough competition from Thailand led by Ken Nanakorn and Manat Dornkan, from the Vietnamese led by Tony Truong and Steven Linh, and the Chinese duo led by Liang Zi Yue and Han Bin. Cambodia’s Long Phaly and Japan’s Yoshi Hasegawa are also to be taken seriously as they have shown that they are no pushovers in the game of pool.

Jimmy Menguita, the champion in tip top form at yesterday's 3rd All-Asian 9 Ball Tournament

Jimmy Menguita of the Philippine Billiard Cub-Geneva captured the 3rd All Asian 9 Ball tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard yesterday by beating Ken Nanakorn of Thailand 6-4. It was a close neck to neck battle up to the fourth rack as both players were tied at 4-4. However, in the succeeding rack, Nanakorn badly missed his shot on the 7th ball and this error gave Jimmy Menguita a chance to run out the table and take the lead. Menguita then took the last rack to secure his victory.

In the battle for 3rd and 4th place, PBC’s Maurice Leonor edged out compatriot Joseph Sycip 6-4 in another see-saw battle. The decisive part of the match was in the final two rack where Leonor played spectacular pool with precise ball pocketing and positioning thus winning the game.

Thailand's Ken Nanakorn kicks ass of Josh Dias, captures 1st Asian 10 Ball Crown

Thailand's Ken Nanakorn is the new Asian 10-Ball Champion

Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn nipped Josh Dias 5-4 to capture the 1st Asian 10-Ball Championship tournament at the Carouge Billiard Centre. In the early racks, Dias soared high like an eagle taking the lead with super precision pocketing and cue ball positioning. However, Nanakorn rallied to tie the score 4-4. In the final rack, a spectacular carom on the 10 ball by Nanakorn wrapped up the victory, turning his opponent Dias the mighty eagle into a skinned chicken.

In the battle for the 3rd place, China’s Liang Zi Yue defeated Filipino Joseph Sycip. Liang played brilliantly from the first rack until the fifth rack to demolish Sycip. The Philippine Billiard Club-Geneva would like to thank all the participants of the tournament and we would like to welcome the new players from Vietnam, Tony Truong and Steven Linh who played magnificently during the tournament.

Now its time for Asian 10-Ball Tournament

The first ever Asian 10-ball billiard tournament in Geneva will be held on the 26th of October, Sunday at 2pm at the Centre Carougeois de Billard, 36, av. du Cardinal-Mermillod, 1227 Carouge. As usual, players from Thailand, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan and the Philiipines will compete in this new billiard discipline which has started to become a more popular game in the world of pool. Ten-ball is very similar to 9 ball. It is a rotation game, however it is more difficult, using ten balls instead of nine, with the 10 as the "money-ball"

This new game Ten-ball is preferred over nine-ball by some professionals because according to them, it is a call shot game. It is also slightly harder to pocket any balls on the breakshot with the more crowded rack , and performing a string of breaks and runs on successive racks becomes increasingly difficult to achieve (statistically). There is a possibility that ten-ball will eventually eclipse nine-ball as the most popular professional tournament game. PBC-Geneva President Jerry Quinto awards Manat Dornkan the 2008 Ambassador's Cup

Thai cue player Manat Dornkan demolished Morris Leonor 7-1 in today’s Philippine Independence Day Ambassador’s Cup 9-Ball Invitational Tournament at the Carouge Billiard Center. The unknown Dornkan surged ahead with 3 frames, then Leonor took the 4^th frame but Dornkan in blitzkreig assault took the next 4 remaining frames to capture the title.

In the battle for the 3^rd place, Banjo San Pedro trounced Thai cue master Ken Nanakorn 7-4. San Pedro played superbly with accurate pocketing and positioning. His precise bank shots in the last 3 frames proved to be decisive in wrapping up his bid. On the other hand, Nanakorn was off and committed a lot of blunders.

This year's Philippine Independence Day Ambassador's Cup 9 Ball Invitational Tournament was sponsored by H.E. Erlinda F. Basilio, Philippine Ambassador to the UN and other organizations.
