Philippines' Morris Leonor devours Vietnam's Tony Truong 7-3, captures 10th Asian 9-Ball Tournament Championship

Morris Leonor of the Philippines started the year 2010 like a roaring tiger as he devoured Tony Truong of Vietnam 7-3 in today’s finals of the 10th Asian 9-Ball Tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard, at the old town of Carouge in Geneva.

The Filipino veteran player went into an early offensive to take the first 2 racks. Not to be outdone, the cue master from Ho Chi Minh City fought back and equalized the score at 2-2. Then the next rack went to Leonor. Again, Truong retaliated by tying the score 3-3. However, the next 4 straight racks was taken by Leonor as he took control of the table with his perfect ball positioning, precise pocketing and defensive safeties.

In the contest for the 3rd and 4th place, it was a heartbreak neck-to-neck battle between two Filipino billiard buddies. Val Arceo nipped Jimmy Menguita 6-5 in an exciting tit-for-tat battle. In the end, the pool gods gave the good rolls to Val Arceo as he pumped in the last few balls plus the 9 ball to inch his way past Menguita.

Year of the Tiger starts with a big bang at the 10th Asian 9-Ball Tour on 17th January

The PBC-Geneva welcomes the year of the Tiger with a big bang as the cue masters battle it out anew at the 10th Asian 9-Ball Tournament on the 17^th of January 2010 at 2 pm, at the Centre Carougeois de Billard, 36 Av. du Cardinal– Mermillod, 1227 Carouge.

After a very successful tour last year, this year’s Asian Tour promises to be more exciting than ever. We are aiming to expand and increase our membership to include more Asian players in the only major Asian pool league in Switzerland.

We would like to thank our members, players, fans and supporters who helped us build the Asian Tours. Thank you for your support and we hope that together we will continue promoting the billiard sport among our people here in Geneva.

As we begin the New Year, we would like to invite other Asian players to come and join us in this fun-filled day of pool competition. A registration fee of 35 CHF will be charged for each participating player. Players are requested to be present 15 minutes before game time. Ken Nanakorn defeats Joseph Sycip 5-1 to capture the 8th Asian 8-Ball Tournament

Ken Nanakorn of Thailand is the year-enders 8th Asian 8-Ball Tournament champion

Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn defeated Philippines’ Joseph Sycip 5-1 in the year-ender 8th Asian 8-Ball Tournament yesterday at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. Nanakorn’s win has made him the number 1 in the top rankings of the Asian Tour.

Nanakorn had a smooth sailing as he was able to perfectly position and run out on the early racks. He took the first 3 racks before Sycip was able to win a rack but by that time it was already too late. Sycip, who remained undefeated until the finals could not seem to get his momentum. He complained of a lot of bad rolls during his game with Nanakorn. “Tough luck, the balls just did not roll on the right position”, he said.

In the other match for the 3^rd place, Philippine’s Jimmy Menguita beat Vietnam’s Tony Truong 5-3. Jimmy Menguita led all the way taking the early racks while Tony Truong tried to rally from behind. In the end, Menguita’s superb safety plays plus his excellent pocketing and ball positioning made the difference as this insured his victory.

During the break, the PBC-Geneva held a Christmas cocktail party consisting of Asian food. Sushi, fried noodles, spring rolls, paella, and other delicacies were served to the players, friends and supporters of the Asian Tours. The Christmas Challenge at the 8th Asian 8-Ball Tournament

The cold snowy winter season has now begun but the heat is still on as the top Asian cue masters rack it up at the 8th Asian 8-Ball Tournament that unwinds on 13 December at 2 pm,Sunday at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.

As the final tournament of the year, the matches are expected to be as exciting and thrilling as the previous Asian Tours. The defending Champion Val Arceo from the Philippines will be aiming for his third straight grandslam championship. However his nearest rival, Thailand's Ken Nanakorn is expected to put up a neck-to-neck fight to wrest the crown.

Further resistance is expected from other cue masters like Tony Truong from Vietnam, Morris Leonor, Ruben Zaballa and Jimmy Menguita from the Philippines, and Liang Zi Yue of China. And further surprises can also be expected from other players who have shown great pool skills in the recent tours.

As this will be the final tour of the year, we would like to invite other Asian players to come and join us in this fun-filled day of pool competition. A registration fee of 35 CHF will be charged for each participating player. Players are requested to be present 15 minutes before game time.

Val Arceo thrashes Ken Nanakorn 7-2, wins 9th Asian 9 Ball Tour

The Philippines’ Val Arceo made his 2^nd consecutive championship by thrashing Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn 7-2 in today’s finals of the 9^th Asian 9-Ball Tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. Last month, Arceo took the 7^th Asian 8-Ball Tour by beating his compatriot Ruben Zaballa 5-3.

Nanakorn started with an early lead by taking the first rack. This was quickly equalized by Arceo as he took the second rack. From there on, Arceo went into a flurry of attacks with precise pocketing and impeccable positioning of the cue ball. This somehow immobilized the cuemaster from Bangkok who was only able to take another rack before he was finally buried in a deluge of run-outs.

In the race for 3^rd place, the veteran Morris Leonor of the Philippines trounced his compatriot rookie Leo Barroga 6-4 in an exciting match. The early racks were a see-saw battle until the 8^th rack when the breaks began to tilt to the more experienced player Leonor. He took the offensive to grab the last 2 racks to put the icing on his cake.

9th Asian 9-Ball Tour set for 15 November

The Asian pool masters will again be facing off this Sunday, 15 November at 2 p.m. at the Centre Carougeois de Billard in the 9^th edition of Asian 9 Ball Tournament. As usual, the double round elimination tournament will again be full of suspense and excitement as the players fight it out rack after rack in this nerve-wrecking competition.

Defending Champion Ken Nanakorn of Thailand will be sticking to his guns in his bid to retain his crown. He will be facing stiff opposition from veteran players like Vietnam’s Tony Truong, and the Philippines' Val Arceo, Jimmy Menguita and Ruben Zaballa.

Not to be discounted are the other Philippine veterans of the pool circuit like Philippines’ Raymundo Ruben and Morris Leonor and Thailand’s Mie “James” Udon. Also to be carefully watched are the rising stars, --the rookies like China’s Liang Zi Yue, Japan’s Yoshi Hasegawa, and the Philippines’ Leo Barroga who in the last few months have improved their game tremendously.

The Asian Tours is inviting all Asians to join us in an afternoon of fun, camaraderie and exciting pool competition. A registration fee of 35 CHF will be charged for each participant.

Val Arceo whips Ruben Zaballa 5-3, bags 7th Asian 8 Ball crown.

It was another all-Philippine finals in today’s 7th Asian 8 Ball Tournament at the Centre Billard de Carougeois as veteran cue master Val Arceo whipped compatriot Ruben Zaballa 5-3 to defend the title and win the 8 ball championship for the second consecutive time.

Arceo who was also the 6th Asian 8 Ball champion, took the early lead and grabbed the first rack. However, not to be outdone, Zaballa fought back for the equalizer. It was a see-saw battle until the 4th rack with the score at 2-2, when Arceo unleashed his all out attack and took the next two racks to lead 4-2. The stubborn Zaballa tried to rally and took the next rack to move closer at 4-3. But in the final rack, Arceo tried a bank shot on the side pocket with the 8 ball which missed but with a stroke of good luck, bounced back and went inside the pocket to seal his victory 5-3.

In the battle for 3rd place, rookie Leo Barroga surprised everyone by upsetting and demolishing Las Vegas veteran Raymundo Ruben 3-0. It was a lop-sided match as Barroga took control of the table and dominated rack after rack. Ruben, who earlier in the semi-finals played a superb game by crushing Vietnamese Tony Truong 5-0, suddenly lost his magic touch and succumbed to Barroga’s
unrelenting offensive.

As a special benefit tournament, the prize money of 220 Swiss francs (approximately 10,000 Philippine pesos) was donated to Sagip Kapamilya c/o Mr. Rudy Guacena for the victims of the recent typhoon Ondoy . We would like to thank all the players for their generosity, kindness and solidarity.
