Summer Heats Up as Asian Pool Masters Prepare to Clash Anew at the7th Asian 9 Ball Tournament

The heat is up as the Asian cue masters meet anew on the 5th of July for the much-awaited 7th All Asian 9 Ball Tournament to be held at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. After failing to win last month’s Philippine Independence Day 8 Ball Asian Invitational Tournament, the Filipinos are raring to turn the tables on their fiercest Asian opponents.
Led by Jimmy Menguita, Val Arceo, and Ruben Zaballa, Team Philippines boasts of the deepest bench in the Asian Tour. In addition, pool Veterans Bos Reyes, Frankie Federigan, Raymundo Ruben, and Morris Leonor make this team a formidable wall to breakthrough.
Among the fiercest of their opponents are the Thais led by Ken Nanakorn and last month’s Philippine Independence Day Champion, Mie “James” Udon. The “dynamic duo” of Thai pool are expected to create havoc on the green felt to insure their domination of the game.
The Vietnamese on the other hand, has a strong presence in the Asian Tour. Led by Tony Truong, the master cue player from Hanoi has consistently shown that he can run out the tables with his precision shots and ball positioning. Backed up by rookie Stephen Linh, they are a formidable force to reckon with in the Asian tour.
Not to be discounted is China’s Liang Zi Yue and Japan’s Yoshi Hasegawa, both players have proven their competitiveness during the last Asian Tours either landing in the semi-finals or the finals.
And like they say, the 9 ball is round—anything can just happen.

Thailand's Mie "James" Udon bags Ambassador's Cup

Thailand’s Mie “James” Udon clobbered Philippines’ Bos Reyes 5-1 to capture the 2009 Ambassador’s Cup - Philippine Independence Day Asian Invitational 8 Ball Tournament held today at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.

It was a shaky start for Udon who was trailing as Reyes took the 1st rack to lead 1-0. However, Udon started to get serious and pulled out all his guns to take the rest of the next 5 racks to finalized his victory. This is the second consecutive year that the Thais have taken the much-coveted Ambassador’s Cup. Last year, another Thai player, Manat Dornkan took home the cup.

In the battle for 3rd place, Vietnam’s Steven Linh crushed Philippines’ Ruben Zaballa 5-2. The Vietnamese rookie cue player took the offensive and wrapped up the first 2 racks. Zaballa tried to rally from behind but the effort seemed to be futile as Linh was unstoppable in pocketing shots and positioning the white ball perfectly for the next shots.

The 3rd Annual Ambassador's Cup--Philippine Independence Day Invitational -Ball Tournament at the Carouge Billiard Center on 7 June

The top Asian cue masters battle anew in this year's 2009 Philippine Independence Day Invitational 8-Ball Tournament on Sunday, 7 June at the Carouge Billiards Center. Up for grabs is the much coveted "3rd Ambassador’s Cup". Like last year's competition, the competition will be an Asian invitational tournament to accommodate our Asian pool players who have been very supportive of the Philippine Billiard Club.

The PBC-Geneva is calling on all our kababayans and other Asians to join us in an afternoon of fun and pool competition. A registration fee of 35 CHF will be charged for each participant. Aside from the much coveted "Ambassador's Cup", cash prizes will also be given to the top 4 finalists. We also would like to thank our Philippine Ambassador H.E. Erlinda F. Nanakorn edges Arceo 9-8, captures 6th All Asian 9 Ball Tournament crown

Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn swept his way into the finals and then edged Philippines’ Val Arceo in a thrilling title showdown, 9-8, to rule the 6th All Asian 9 Ball Tournament today at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.

It was an astounding feat for the cue master from Bangkok as it was his second championship in a row. Only last month, Nanakorn also captured the 5th All Asian 8 Ball Tournament.

Another surprise was Philippine rookie Leo Barroga who took the 3rd place by nipping compatriot Joseph Sycip 7-6. It was Barroga’s first time to be in the finals of the Asian Tours.

Next month's tournament will be the annual Philippine Independence Day Ambassador’s Cup 8-Ball Invitational Tournament which is scheduled on the 7th of June, at 2 pm at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.

Mayhem in May as top Asian cue masters prepare to clash in the 6th All Asian 9-Ball Tournament

It’s going to be mayhem again on the 3rd of May as the clash of the pool Titans happens at the 6th All Asian 9 Ball Tournament at 2 p.m. at the Centre Carougeois de Billard, 36, av. Cardinal-Mermillod 1227 Carouge.

Defending Champion Ruben Zaballa of the Philippines will be facing stiff opposition as he tries to defend his title. The Asian tigers, Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn, Vietnam’s Tony Truong, and China’s Liang Zi Yue are among the top contenders. However, Zaballa is expected to get back up from the Team Philippines which is considered to have the deepest bench in the Asian tours.

Registration fee for the tournament is 35 CHF for the double round knock-out format. All participants must be present at least 15 minutes before game time. Spectators are most welcome. Thailand's Ken Nanakorn nips China's Liang Zi Yue 5-4, to win 5th All Asian 8 Ball Tournament

Ken Nanakorn of Thailand nipped Liang Zi Yue of China in the finals, 5-4, to complete a sweep and rule the 5th All Asian 8-Ball Tournament Championship yesterday at the Centre Billard de Carougeois

In blitzkrieg fashion, Nanakorn quickly took the early lead by taking the first initial racks to lead 4-1. However, Liang slowly but surely went back to the game and tied the score at 4-4 to the delight of the crowd. In the final and decisive rack, Liang gambled on a difficult shot instead of going for a safety, giving Nanakorn a easy shot to run out the last few balls.

Meanwhile, in the battle for 3^rd place, Morris Leonor of the Philippines hurdled past compatriot Joseph Sycip 5-2. Sycip led 2-0 in the early racks but a couple of bad rolls

in the succeeding racks miraculously helped Leonor to rally and win the game.

The All-Asian Tours is a regular monthly pool tournament originally organized by the Philippine Billiard Club of Geneva. In its initial years from 2003, the PBC-Geneva organized the All-Filipino billiard events. However from 2007, it has expanded and grown into the All Asian Tours to include cue players from Cambodia, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, China and the Philippines.

Springtime Renews Battle of the Asian Cue Masters at the 5th All Asian 8 Ball Tour

It will be another explosive springtime offensive on 5 April, 2008 when the Asian cue masters battle it out in the upcoming 5th All Asian 8-Ball Tournament at the Centre Billard de Carougeois. Defending Champion, Tony Truong of Vietnam will try to defend his crown against the pool wizards of the Philippines, Thailand, China, Cambodia, and Japan.

Last month’s 5th All Asian 9-Ball Tour surprise champion, Ruben Zaballa, together with pool veterans Val Arceo and Jimmy Menguita lead the opposition team from Philippines. Equally explosive are Thailand’s Dynamic Duo, Ken Nanakorn and Manat Dornkan. Also expected to pull out some surprises are China’s Liang Zi Yue and Japan’s Yoshi Hasegawa.

As a rule, participants in the tournament are requested to be present at least 15 minutes before game time. The usual registration fee for the tournament is 35 CHF for each player participant. Ruben Zaballa clobbers Tony Truong 7-4 to win 5th All Asian 9-Ball Tour

Team Philippines finally scored their first victory for 2009 yesterday as Ruben Zaballa came up with a near-flawless performance as he clobbered Vietnam’s Tony Truong 7-4 in yesterday's 5^th All Asian 9 Ball Tournament at the Centre Billard de Carougeois.

After an early see-saw battle that lasted until the 6^rd rack and tied the score at 3-3, the tide suddenly changed as Zaballa slowly but surely took the succeeding racks to win 7-4. It was a breakthrough feat for Zaballa as this is his first All Asian tour victory.

The second match for the 3^rd place also proved to be very exciting as Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn nipped Philippines’ Morris Leonor 7-6. It was a tit-for tat fight for these two master cue players which lasted until the final rack. But in the end, Nanakorn prevailed to the cheers of the crowd who all greeted him a happy birthday.

The next tournament, the 5^th All Asian 8-Ball Tournament will be held on the 5^th of April 2009, Sunday, 2 p.m. at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. To all our Asian players, fans and supporters--

Defending Champion Ken Nanakorn of Thailand, who won the last 4th All Asian 9-Ball Tournament is set to preserve his crown as he faces the toughest bunch of Asian cue masters in the coming 5^th All Asian 9-Ball Tournament on 8^th March, Sunday, at 2 p.m. at the Centre Carougeois de Billard.

In contention are the Philippines with the deepest bench led by the juggernaut of cue veterans Jimmy Menguita, Val Arceo, and Raymundo Ruben. Not to be outdone is Vietnam’s Tony Truong, who surprised everyone by capturing last month’s 4^th All Asia 8 Ball Tour. Another rising cue master is China’s Liang Zi Yue who has lately proved that he is no pushover by landing in the finals last month.

Vietnam's Tony Truong trounces China's Liang Zi Yue 6-4, captures 4th All-Asian 8-Ball crown

Billiard rookie Tony Truong of Vietnam proved to be the biggest heartbreaker as he trounced China’s Liang Zi Yue 6-4 in yesterday’s 4^th All-Asian 8 Ball Tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. Truong played an almost flawless game of precise pocketing, perfect positioning of the cue ball and spectacular safeties that put him in the lead 4-1 in the early racks. Despite the big lead, Liang tried desperately to rally from behind and moved closer to 5-4. However, Liang blew a chance to tie the score as he missed on the 4 ball. Truong took advantage of this and ran out the table to secure his victory.

In the battle for the 3^rd place, Thai cue master Manat Dornkan demolished his compatriot Ken Nanakorn 6-3. Dornkan proved to be in a better form as he outplayed Nanakorn in almost every rack in this one-sided contest.

Nanakorn nips Sycip 6-4, wins 4th Asian 9 Ball Tour

Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn nipped PBC’s Joseph Sycip 6-4 in an exciting, nerve wreaking tit-for-tat match last night at the 4th All Asian 9 Ball Tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. Both players battled it out in every rack tying the score at 4-4. However, Nanakorn took the 5th rack with his exceptional pocketing and ball positioning and Sycip was not able to tie the score as he encountered a couple of bad rolls that finally gave Nanakorn the title.

In the other set of finals for the 3rd and 4th place, Manat Dornkan of Thailand beat Philippines’ Leo Flor , 6-3. Dornkan took the early lead by taking first three racks. Flor desperately tried to rally from behind but it was too late as the Thai cue master took the succeeding racks and made sure that his opponent was buried in the score.

The year of the Ox 2009 promises to be an exciting year for the Asian Billiard Tournaments, which are principally organized by the Philippine Billiard Club of Geneva. The PBC-Geneva started organizing All- Filipino Billiard Tournaments in 2003. In late 2007, we expanded from All-Filipino to All-Asian and today we are currently having regular monthly All Asian tournaments. Today our tournament participants include players from the Philippines, Thailand, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, and South Korea. We hope that in 2009 we will continue to be successful in our efforts to promote pool among our co-Asians in Geneva.

The year of the Ox will be welcomed by explosive fireworks as Asia's top cue artists face each other at this year's 4th All Asian 9-Ball Tournament which will unfold on the 11th of January, 2 p.m. at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. Cue masters from the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, and China will battle it out in this year's opening Asian tournament.

Defending Champion Jimmy Menguita of the PBC-Geneva will again lead the Filipinos, while tough opposition is again expected from the Thais led by Ken Nanakorn and Manat Dornkan, and

the Vietnamese led by Tony Truong and Steven Linh, and ofcourse, the Chinese juggernaut led by Han Bin and Liang Zi Yue.

Jimmy Menguita clobbers Raymundo Ruben 6-4 to capture 3rd All Asian 8 Ball Tournament

It was another all Filipino finals at the 3^rd All Asian 8 Ball tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. Jimmy Menguita, last month’s 3^rd Asian 9 Ball champion continued his winning streak by clobbering Raymundo Ruben 6-4. Menguita’s flawless pocketing and superb positioning of the cue ball put him ahead in the early racks. But in a display of strong fighting spirit, Ruben rallied and almost tied the score as he closed in 5-4. However, the rolls went to Menguita as he easily took the final rack after Ruben missed a pocket.

In the 3rd place contest, Frankie Federigan easily beat Joseph Sycip. Federigan, who is a veteran pool player disarmed his opponent by using defensive plays and safeties. His strategy of “attack-defense” proved to be effective against Sycip who is more of an offensive player. Earlier, Sycip eliminated both Thai cue master Ken Nanakorn, and Vietnamese pool hustler Tony Truong. However, his compatriot Federigan, proved to be more blessed by the pool Gods as the good rolls went with him.

Just before the finals, the tournament was suspended for an hour as the Philippine Billiard Club-Geneva also had a small Christmas celebration with drinks, and Asian food which consisted of spring rolls, sushi, chicken, dimsum, salad and noodles. The Christmas celebration was also to thank all the Asian players, our friends and fans, especially the Centre Carougeois de Billard for supporting us in the year 2008. We hope that your support and dedication to the sport of billiards will continue in the years to come. Lastly,we also thank those who in one way or another contributed to our Christmas party by cooking or donating food. It will be another exciting and thrilling year-ender as the 3rd All-Asian 8 Ball Tournament unfolds on the 21st of December, 2008, at 2 pm, at the Centre Carougeois de Billard. Dubbed as the “Christmas Showdown”, this final tournament of the year will feature Asian cue masters from Thailand, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, and the Philippines.

Defending Champion the Philippines, who in the past won the 1st and 2nd Asian 8 Ball Tournaments will be faced with tough competition from Thailand led by Ken Nanakorn and Manat Dornkan, from the Vietnamese led by Tony Truong and Steven Linh, and the Chinese duo led by Liang Zi Yue and Han Bin. Cambodia’s Long Phaly and Japan’s Yoshi Hasegawa are also to be taken seriously as they have shown that they are no pushovers in the game of pool.

Jimmy Menguita wins 3rd Asian 9 Ball Tour

Jimmy Menguita of the Philippine Billiard Cub-Geneva captured the 3rd All Asian 9 Ball tournament at the Centre Carougeois de Billard yesterday by beating Ken Nanakorn of Thailand 6-4. It was a close neck to neck battle up to the fourth rack as both players were tied at 4-4. However, in the succeeding rack, Nanakorn badly missed his shot on the 7th ball and this error gave Jimmy Menguita a chance to run out the table and take the lead. Menguita then took the last rack to secure his victory.

In the battle for 3rd and 4th place, PBC’s Maurice Leonor edged out compatriot Joseph Sycip 6-4 in another see-saw battle. The decisive part of the match was in the final two rack where Leonor played spectacular pool with precise ball pocketing and positioning thus winning the game.

It’s back to the pool table as the 3^rd All-Asian 9 Ball Tournament reels off at the Centre Carougeois de Billard this 23^rd of November at 2 pm. This exclusive All-Asian tour will again be an exciting battle among the best of cue artists from China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Japan and the Philippines. Defending champion Ken Nanakorn of Thailand is expected to face strong opposition from the best players from Asia.

Thailand's Ken Nanakorn kicks ass of Josh Dias, captures 1st Asian 10 Ball Crown

Thailand's Ken Nanakorn is the new Asian 10-Ball Champion

Thailand’s Ken Nanakorn nipped Josh Dias 5-4 to capture the 1st Asian 10-Ball Championship tournament at the Carouge Billiard Centre. In the early racks, Dias soared high like an eagle taking the lead with super precision pocketing and cue ball positioning. However, Nanakorn rallied to tie the score 4-4. In the final rack, a spectacular carom on the 10 ball by Nanakorn wrapped up the victory, turning his opponent Dias the mighty eagle into a skinned chicken.

In the battle for the 3rd place, China’s Liang Zi Yue defeated Filipino Joseph Sycip. Liang played brilliantly from the first rack until the fifth rack to demolish Sycip. The Philippine Billiard Club-Geneva would like to thank all the participants of the tournament and we would like to welcome the new players from Vietnam, Tony Truong and Steven Linh who played magnificently during the tournament.

Now its time for Asian 10-Ball Tournament

The first ever Asian 10-ball billiard tournament in Geneva will be held on the 26th of October, Sunday at 2pm at the Centre Carougeois de Billard, 36, av. du Cardinal-Mermillod, 1227 Carouge. As usual, players from Thailand, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan and the Philiipines will compete in this new billiard discipline which has started to become a more popular game in the world of pool. Ten-ball is very similar to 9 ball. It is a rotation game, however it is more difficult, using ten balls instead of nine, with the 10 as the "money-ball"

This new game Ten-ball is preferred over nine-ball by some professionals because according to them, it is a call shot game. It is also slightly harder to pocket any balls on the breakshot with the more crowded rack , and performing a string of breaks and runs on successive racks becomes increasingly difficult to achieve (statistically). There is a possibility that ten-ball will eventually eclipse nine-ball as the most popular professional tournament game. Thai cue player Manat Dornkan demolished Morris Leonor 7-1 in today’s Philippine Independence Day Ambassador’s Cup 9-Ball Invitational Tournament at the Carouge Billiard Center. The unknown Dornkan surged ahead with 3 frames, then Leonor took the 4^th frame but Dornkan in blitzkreig assault took the next 4 remaining frames to capture the title.

In the battle for the 3^rd place, Banjo San Pedro trounced Thai cue master Ken Nanakorn 7-4. San Pedro played superbly with accurate pocketing and positioning.
